Today is Mary Berg’s birthday. You have probably never heard of her though. She is 87 years old today. Her real birthday was April 20th, today is her adoptive birthday because in her childhood it was against the law to have your birthday on April 20th, so she changed it to October 10th. Only one person could have April 20th as their birthday, and that was Adolph Hitler.
Mary was a teenager in the Warsaw Ghetto and lived to write a book about it. Although she is not as well known as Anne Frank, her book offers a rare view, through the eyes and emotions of teenager, of life during WWII and the tragedy and triumphs of the Warsaw Ghetto.
