Today the fifth grade class spent the day at the Los Angeles Zoo.

They’ve spent the last few weeks study the animals at the zoo. And they’ve spent many of those days also being junior zoologists in their own classroom by photographing, sketching, measuring, and weighing their own pets and many of the pets of the staff.

Today at the zoo they took dozens of pictures and sketched animals.  Although it was hot, they saw nearly all the animals. It was a highlight for them to see the animals they had studied. The zoo web site is a great site for learning more about animals.

Today’s trip was part of the new hands-on curriculum for the fourth through sixth grade. This Thursday, the fourth grade class will being going to the Sante Fe Train Depot, the San Bernardino Historical Society at the Heritage House, and the graves of the Earp family at Pioneer and Mt. View Cemeteries.
